wah wah, affirmative yes, no, ok yes

after the sotomayer hearings, it's hard to not think of the older white, conservative senators as whiney babies afraid of losing their toys, or as maureen dowd called it in her editorial as white man’s last stand.

so while we are taking breather for the vote (wah, can't we have one more week, wah wah), i'd like to point out a nice article i found on affirmative action. in it mr. howard points out that white men were beneficiaries of affirmative action for centuries (by exclusion of other types of people for jobs/school/awards etc). and, now that we've had a couple of decades of affirmative action for the excluded groups, at universities men have become a group that are benefiting from the very type of affirmative action the conservatives supposedly abhor. for example, at william and mary college "women are accepted at 26 percent and men at 44 percent" in order to keep the gender balanced. how do you like them apples?
