~16% of American's are nonbelievers, why can't you accept that?

As a lot of you know, when Obama made his very lovely inauguration speech he went out of his way to give a nod to science and statistics. What hopefully you all also noted was that he gave a nod to those of us who are nonbelievers. This was a glorious moment in history if you ask me, and not surprisingly there is now a backlash against his inclusion of nonbelievers in his description of the makeup of the good ol' US of A. There are claims that we are a Christian nation and Obama's inclusion of other religions and even those poor souls who don't have a faith should not be given the same weight as Christians in the US.

I don't know about you, lovely readers, but I strongly believe that people should have the right to believe in what they like (as long as they aren't hurting anyone) and our fair country is built on the idea of freedom of religion (and in turn the right to not having religion as it were). So seriously, why can't these people just accept that we are all citizens of this country and as such we should all be acknowledged in political speeches (which in reality shouldn't talk about religion anyway). I mean, WTF?

as part of the 16% that does not believe in any supreme being, i just have to say to the religious people, that they're just jealous! they're jealous that they can't live their lives without having to think about sin, about conforming to what society dictates. and being a "poor non-believing soul" doesn't mean that we're gonna go and rape a kid or steal from a convenience store. the religious right doesn't understand that we do live abiding the same thing they preach, which is to "love thy neighbor" (specially if it's a hot gay man)...

besides, religious groups are just drowning in hipocrysy. they're fighting against homosexuality, yet their preachers are sodomizing kids. they're fighting against the sanctity of marriage, yet marriages can be undone as quickly as signing a paper. they're preaching on the sanctity of the family, yet male religious mofos can marry more than one woman in some religions. they praise the innocence of the woman, yet lots of men follow the prostitution and porn businesses (that's why gay porn should be free)

but it's so easy to think that a supreme being will absolve my sins, will help me when my mate is leaving me, or when my parents die, or when i'm depressed. i think that's the biggest flaw of the religious system. it doesn't teach us how to deal with our psyche. i don't need to pray 10 hallelujahs so god helps me feel more secure when i go to a job interview, or pray 15 holy marys so that mery helps get through a depression...

sigh... but we're the f-ed up 16% poor souls that have lost their way...

Because then they would be missing an opportunity to "save" you. It is a very clever system.
